Kerela Mangalsutra-Minnu
Minnu is the Christian equivalent of the Hindu mangalsutra, symbolizing the marital status of a woman. The groom ties the minnu around the bride's neck, much like the tying of the mangalsutra in Hindu weddings, during the wedding.

Significance
In Kerala, the Hindus call the mangalsutra “Thaali”’ and the Christians call it “Minnu”. Every Christian bride has a Minnu. The Minnu is a pendant with a cross, a symbol of Christianity, on a gold medallion shaped like a heart.

Symbolic Meaning
The heart symbolises the concept of love.
The cross represents the relationship a husband and wife must follow.
The same relationship between Jesus and his bride, the church.
Five or seven gold dots form the cross.
The Minnu passed through seven strands of thread. Seven represents the bride, the groom, the couple’s parents and the church.

DESIGNS
These classic Minnu designs are rich in heritage, often passed down through generations, each carrying stories of love and commitment.
However, today’s brides are reinterpreting this timeless symbol to reflect their personal style.
Modern Minnus tend to be sleeker and more minimal, with refined silhouettes and contemporary finishes.
Some brides choose to replace the traditional plain gold cross with elegant diamond or gemstone embellishments, blending tradition with a touch of modern sophistication.
